Change isn't easy, but I am blessed.
As many of you may know, recently the publisher I was signed with closed their doors.
I adored working for Bella Tulip Publishing and I will never ever forget all they did for me. They were the first to believe in me and take a chance on my books. Because of them my dream of becoming a published author first came true. I am forever grateful. Their closure came suddenly and I was crushed. I know the publishing industry is hard, and it seems to be getting harder all the time, but I didn't realize how hard until something I counted on, like having a publisher I had signed a contract with- just closed. When you sign the contract you expect them to be around long after your contract is done. On top of that, they were amazing to work with, they took the time to teach us things. They did live tutorials that I would save and go over and over again. They went above and beyond in every aspect of the company. I think this isn't just a loss for the authors that worked with them, but to the publishing world in general. They of course, being the amazing company they were, didn't just announce that and leave us hanging. They allowed us to keep our edits and covers they made for us. I'm so grateful, I couldn't imagine anything more beautiful than the covers they made for me. They also were in contact with a few other publishing houses that offered to take on the new homeless BTP authors, or we could take our books and self publish. Having publishing companies that are willing to work with authors who were previously published under another company is really rare. We are a close knit community and those publishers that stepped up to save the day, are heroes.
It was a tough choice to make. One I didn't make idly. One of the publishers that made an offer was a company called Crazy Ink, after talking with the owner I realized they were exactly the kind of company i would want to work with. The owner is an international bestselling novelist, and she knows what its like to have a publisher close their doors like what happened with BTP. She's intelligent, caring, and very hardworking - I didn't even realize how much at the time. I signed with them. Within a week they already had our books back up on Amazon! They have done so much, so so so much, working tirelessly day and night to help us out on top of running their day to day company. I know I made the right choice and I'm thankful for the chance to work with them now.
The change was hard, I don't like change, but I look forward to the new chapter I am in in my career. My plan is to keep going, keep writing, and keep learning. I've been taking some classes to help the business side to my writing. I've been working on a new book as well. This time of year the same book comes back to haunt me, asking me to write it, and I'm working on that now so these pesky characters will let me be Ha! I love what I do though. Even with the ups and downs and with how wonky the publishing world is getting with trademarks, companies closing down, reviews disappearing, and more, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love love love this crazy business and I think I am now working with a company who can match the crazy and really succeed.
To new chapters in my author career!
